World Pays Winning Positions in CASH—Not Directly to Your Bank
Learn how World settles prediction markets in CASH, when payouts arrive, when to use Redeem, and how prices and fees affect your result.

World pays winning positions in CASH, a stablecoin—not directly into a bank account. Its help center identifies CASH as the currency used both to place predictions and receive payouts. Winning positions are almost always paid automatically into your wallet, though some require a manual Redeem action. (World’s deposit guide, payout guide)
The important distinction is between resolution—deciding the outcome—redemption—receiving the payout—and withdrawal—moving those funds elsewhere.
What settles, and how much does it pay?
A World position consists of YES or NO outcome tokens. In a normal binary resolution, each winning token pays $1 and each losing token pays nothing. The outcome tokens are Solana tokens held in your wallet; they are not themselves the CASH payout. (World’s outcome-token guide)
Before buying, read the market’s Description, beneath its graph. World says this section explains how that particular market settles. Check the exact question, deadline, result or price reference, and treatment of postponements—not just the headline. (World’s settlement guide)
World says an independent oracle reports the result onchain, and the market settles from that report. Automatic settlement does not make the wording unimportant: your position pays according to the defined outcome, not your broader interpretation of what happened. (World’s resolution explanation)
A small example: payout is not profit
Assume a hypothetical market asks whether Team A wins a specified match, with rules defining which result counts. You buy 10 YES tokens at $0.62 each. Suppose the executable sell quote at the same moment is $0.59.
A 62-cent price is commonly read as roughly 62% implied probability; it is not a guarantee. (World’s price explanation) The three-cent gap between these hypothetical buy and sell quotes is the spread.
For arithmetic only, assume you already hold CASH, a $0.02 buy network fee, no price movement during execution, and CASH valued at $1. This is not a quoted World fee schedule. Exclude any refundable deposit, earlier funding costs and later withdrawal costs.
| Outcome | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Entry cost | 10 × $0.62 + $0.02 | $6.22 |
| YES wins | 10 × $1 payout − $6.22 cost | $3.78 gain |
| NO wins | $0 payout − $6.22 cost | $6.22 loss |
| Immediate sale at $0.59 | 10 × $0.59 − $6.22 | $0.32 loss before any sell fee |
The $10 winning payout is gross proceeds, not $10 of profit. These results exclude funding and withdrawal costs. A sale before settlement also produces a different result from holding to resolution.
As of October 7, 2026, World’s fee guide says buys and sells incur network fees, while winning payouts carry no fee. A first buy in a market also requires a refundable deposit, called rent, returned when the market ends—even if you sell earlier. Keep that temporarily committed amount separate from permanent costs. Check the actual transaction amounts rather than substituting the example’s fee. (World’s fee guide)
Why an ended event may not have paid yet
World says crypto markets settle as soon as they close, with payments usually arriving within one minute. Sports and election markets first post a provisional result, allow a short challenge period, and then settle. “The match finished” therefore does not necessarily mean “the payout is ready.” (World’s settlement timing)
If an event is postponed, World says its market can remain open until the event happens or it becomes clear that it will not. Selling meanwhile requires someone willing to buy. (World’s delayed-payout guide)
Cancellation is not necessarily a refund of your purchase price. World describes rare partial, or scalar, resolutions in which YES and NO each receive a portion of $1. Check the applicable rules before assuming either a full winning payout or your money back. (World’s unclear-outcome guide)
Redeem first, withdraw separately
If Redeem appears at the top of the page or in your portfolio, open it and redeem each listed market individually. Otherwise, winning payouts normally require no claim. If you remain stuck, World asks support requests to include your sign-in email, wallet address, and transaction link for funds-related questions. (World’s payout instructions)
To move paid funds elsewhere, choose Withdraw in your portfolio, select the token, amount, destination currency and network, and recipient address. Review You will receive for fees and maximum slippage before confirming. Check that the receiving wallet or service supports the selected token and network. This is a separate token-transfer or conversion step, not a bank cash-out. (World’s withdrawal guide)
Before committing money, make sure you can explain the resolution rule, total entry cost, losing outcome, and route out of CASH. Use the broader pre-trade reading checklist if any of those remain unclear. This is settlement literacy, not a recommendation to trade.
